Tips and tricks

Content creators receive tons of parcels. A good PR package is therefore not simply a matter of sending a product in a nice box. It has to create an experience from the very first seconds, make people want to photograph it and make it easy to create content around your brand. Whether you are preparing a product launch, an influencer campaign or a special event, designing custom packaging can become a real part of your marketing strategy. Here are 7 tips for creating an influencer package that is memorable, photogenic and built for social media.

1. Protect without neglecting presentation

The contents of the package have to stay perfectly organized during transport. An insert suited to the product keeps every element in place and prevents beautiful packaging from losing its effect the moment it is opened. Also think about the details around the product: tissue paper, crinkle paper shred, stickers, printed cards or other packaging accessories can all help make the whole thing feel more polished and more consistent with your brand image.

2. Go oversized

A deliberately oversized package can turn receiving the product into a real production. A big box for a small product, an unusual opening or a structure that reveals its contents gradually can create the surprise effect a PR campaign is looking for. Be careful, though: the format has to serve the concept. The goal is not simply to make something big, but to design packaging that reinforces the creative idea of your campaign. For concepts that go beyond standard formats, our custom structural design service lets us work the structure of the packaging around the product and the experience you want to create.

3. Make the package interactive

Add a QR code leading to a video, an exclusive experience, a contest or content designed specifically for the campaign. The experience does not have to stop once the package is opened. A QR code can bridge the physical packaging and your digital world: a custom video, a landing page, a playlist, a tutorial, a message from the brand or content reserved for recipients. You can also build in clues, compartments to discover or a game mechanic directly in the packaging.

4. Make room for colour

Bold patterns, distinctive colours and graphic details help your package stand out! Your visual identity should be recognizable before the recipient even discovers the product. Outside printing, the inside of the box, patterns, hidden messages and labels can all help create a consistent visual world. Colour does not necessarily mean the package will have more impact, though. A boldly minimalist design can be just as striking as very busy packaging. What matters is that the concept matches your brand and your campaign. Contact our team for all our advice!

5. Find the right message

One strong sentence is sometimes enough to create the whole experience. Choose a short, relevant hook tied directly to your product or your campaign. The message can appear on the outside of the package to spark curiosity, or be discovered only when it is opened. It can take the form of a slogan, a question, a personalized message or even an instruction that encourages the recipient to interact with the packaging.

6. Think “content”

A successful PR package has to make people want to open it, photograph it, film it and share it. So think about content creation from the very first steps of the project.

  • How will the package look in a video?
  • Which element will be discovered first?
  • Does the opening create a moment that is visual enough?
  • Is your brand identifiable when the product is photographed in its packaging?

The goal is not to control the content that will be created, but to design an experience strong enough to naturally give the recipient something to show and to talk about.

7. Personalize the experience

A PR package sent to twenty people does not have to feel like it was produced twenty identical times. Adding the recipient’s first name, a custom card or a message tailored to their world can completely change how the package is perceived. That extra attention creates a more human relationship between the brand and the creator. For some projects, simple custom adhesive labels can also be used to add personalization to certain parts of the packaging without changing its structure entirely.

But which packaging should you choose for a PR package?

For a shipment destined for a content creator, two broad approaches can be considered. A custom mailer box is particularly relevant when the package has to be shipped directly and protection during transport is a priority. For a more high-end presentation or a structure designed specifically around the product, a custom product box or a fully custom solution allows more creative freedom. The choice therefore depends on the product, the shipping method, the budget, the number of packages to produce and above all the experience you want to create.
